Apple Computers

Pacific Bell

Challenge:

Crosswise Corporation, in collaboration with Apple Computer and Pacific Bell, envisioned a new kind of network product that would allow users to teleconference and share their electronic documents in real time between distant locations, all from the convenience of their computer desktop.

Solution:

Since Java didn't exist yet, Giavaneers staff, through Crosswise Corporation, first developed a cross-platform, distributed object framework analagous to Java and marketed as the "Groupware Kernel". Next, building upon Groupware Kernel functionality, FacetoFace, was developed as the world's first cross-platform document conferencing application.  This award-winning product was created at a time when cross-platform applications were otherwise virtually unavailable, successfully meeting the goal of allowing Windows and Macintosh users at different locations to review and markup documents together across a wide variety of networks.

FacetoFace and Groupware Kernel technology and trademarks are currently owned by Apple Computer.
