USGS ForamSampler
Product: Scientific sampling data management software designed for the United States Geological Survey. The application is cross platform (Mac and WindowsNT).
Challenge: USGS wanted to transform paper and pencil data management for microscopic Foraminifera samples into an online procedure without losing the standard chart formats familiar to the science. The data output of the Foraminifera sampler need to be Excel-compliant files for historical aggregations and statistical analysis. Cross-platform features would enable Mac and PC based labs to share data collection procedures and files.
Solution: Giavaneers ForamSampler allows a technician to drag and drop Foram types into sampling boxes and clicker count specimens, thereby dramatically reducing the sampling time. Graphical representations of the Forams can be linked to scientific names for visual sample box recognition. Data collected can be saved, printed, or uploaded into Excel spreadsheets for further analysis.
