Teledesic Satellite Network Emulation Testbed
|
Product:
Running across 36 networked NT workstations, the Testbed is designed to launch and monitor models of the planned Teledesic communication satellite system. The Testbed includes control centers, satellites, ground stations, and the communication end users. Modellers can load, launch and monitor specific algorithms for any aspect of the system configuration and operation. |

Challenge:
As prime contractor to the Teledesic consortium, Boeing was interested in developing a facility to test system capabilities before the construction of costly equipment and deployment of satellites. The Testbed would have to be a distributed system to accurately reflect the components of a deployed satellite network. To enable the use of the system to Modellers working at various laboratories, remote access would be imperative. |
Solution:
The Teledesic Satellite System Testbed allows a Modeller the flexibility of selecting the number of machines to be run, what role each machine will serve, which algorithms will be used to compose the simulation, initial conditions, and runtime. The Modeller can also customize the data monitored by dragging and dropping from data lists into display types (line graphs, pie charts, histograms, etc.). The Testbed is 100% Java, with Java and C++ interfaces to support multi-language Model development. |
